Derbyshire’s Best Singer to play Tracy in Hairspray

Georgina Bailey was crowned Derbyshire’s Best Singer in September 2016. Georgii is a performing arts teacher at Chesterfield College; she also runs her own musical theatre company and teaches at Wallace Dance Academy. Georgii studied musical theatre at university in Newcastle and Hull and has just finished a PGCE with Derby University.

It is apt that Georgii won the singing competition with her song choice of ‘I Know Where I’ve Been’ from the hit musical, Hairspray. Georgii states that she’s dreamed of playing Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray since she was 15, “Tracy Turnblad is so relatable to me and has been my hero! She taught me that being big doesn't mean you can't dance.”

We are delighted to have Georgii, a true local talent as a member of Chesterfield Operatic Society. Her first role with the Operatic Society was playing Maria in The Sound of Music in 2013, since then she has played many other parts including Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar. And we are all delighted that she is playing the lead in Hairspray, this April at the Pomegranate Theatre.
